Dear Parents,
Choosing distinctively Christian education is an important decision. Many who do not come from a Lutheran background have questions about our school ministry. They wonder if being a Lutheran is required to attend St. Peter’s. The short answer is no. All Christian faiths are welcome at St. Peter’s. Here is some information which may begin to answer your questions about what Lutherans believe:
The Bible is God’s Word – “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16
How does God love us? – “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
All who believe in Jesus as Lord are part of God’s family of faith – “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out His commands.” 1 John 5:1-2
How do we respond to God’s love for us? – “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34
Like all schools of quality, St. Peter’s considers many sources of information in the design of its curriculum and instructional approaches. State standards, the research of professional organizations, and the expertise of our faculty all contribute to the knowledge, skills, and values we teach our students. In the end, however, we never lose sight of the individual child. As Christians, we are motivated, not by how we view the world, but by how God views us. We believe that God loves us unconditionally and sent His Son to ensure that our relationship with God would never be broken. We believe that God reaches out to us individually; that He calls us into His family by name; that He has a unique purpose for us in His creation. We want every child to experience that kind of love and relationship, to know that he or she is valued as an individual. We strive to help each child discover his uniqueness, his strengths and to integrate both with what he learns.
